New conference for Montessori teachers in southern United States
The Southeast Montessori Collective is a new grassroots organization for teachers and administrators in twelve southeastern states. Offering support to Montessori professionals and parents with templates and resources, expert columnists, regional news and more, they will host their first conference on August 4. The keynote address will be delivered by Annie Frazer of Montessori Partnerships for Georgia; other workshops include challenging behaviors in the classroom, tackling history and culture inclusively and more.

Wampanoags Resurrect Language in Schools
Mukayuhsak Weekuw: The Children’s House in New Britain, Connecticut, the first full-day Wôpanâak (Wampanoag language) immersion classroom in 400 years, is a partnership between the Wôpanâak Language Reclamation Project (WLRP), the Montessori Academy of Cape Cod and the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe. It offers 1,000 hours of language immersion each academic year to students two to five years old.

Women's Refuge Meals Prepared by Kids, Grown by Prisoners
Montessori students are helping feed families in need by partnering with prisoners. The vegetables grown behind the wire at Rimutaka Prison are being prepared by school students for families seeking help at Women's Refuge. The unlikely arrangement is co-ordinated by the Common Unity Project, a charity whose Urban Kai Network has people growing produce in backyards, community gardens and the country's largest prison.

Montessori School and Aged Care Home to Share Campus in Australian-first
Residents of the Kalyra Woodcroft aged care home in Morphett Vale, South Australia, and students of the Southern Montessori middle school campus, will take classes together including music, art, history and cooking after the school took out a 20-year lease on the site following a decade-long search for a new home. The $20 million project is a first here, but other intergenerational programs overseas – where residents share facilities with preschools – have proved successful and Kalyra Communities hopes the same will be true here.
