Webinar: Making Elementary Biology Relevant—A Review of Current Life Science Ideas with Priscilla Spears!

September 3 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

ET

Webinar Description:

The field of biology has changed dramatically since Maria Montessori created her content for ages 6-12. In this webinar, we will look at the academic world that she drew on and the current state of biology at the college level. Then, we will consider appropriate content for today’s biology lessons and how we can introduce children to the big ideas of life science. I’ll share my framework for life science and show current diagrams for the diversity of life. We will look at charts for the animal and plant kingdoms. The current view of the needs and characteristics of life is different from the MRSGREF lesson that was previously common, and we will discuss this. Finally, we will do an overview of the organization of life, the structures from the biosphere to atoms and how they build the levels of organization.
