Team Member

Shelby Hiken Early Childhood Associate Director and Practicum Coordinator

“As a member of the CGMS team, I am honored to carry forward Dr. Montessori’s vision by supporting and inspiring teachers as they experience the transformation of becoming a Montessori Guide.”

Shelby holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Arizona, a Master’s in Education from Loyola University Maryland, and an Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) Early Childhood Certification from the Washington Montessori Institute (WMI). With over 25 years of experience in Montessori education, she has worked in both public and private school settings, supporting children, educators, and school communities through authentic Montessori practice, mentorship, and leadership.

As the Assistant Director of the At Play Learning Institute (APLI) at Port Discovery’s Children’s Museum in Baltimore, Maryland, Shelby partners with schools, childcare centers, and community organizations to champion the power of play and support children, educators, caregivers, and families in creating joyful, meaningful, and playful learning experiences grounded in the science of learning and development.
