Margaret Combs Early Childhood Instructional Guide

Margaret was born and raised in Illinois, where her adventurous parents nurtured her deep curiosity and love of exploration from an early age. Traveling widely as a child shaped her worldview and instilled in her a lasting belief that growth happens when we step beyond the familiar.

She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Southern Illinois University, a Master of Arts from Eastern Illinois University, and a Master of Fine Arts from the University of North Texas. Her background in fine art continues to influence her Montessori work, bringing a strong design sensibility, creativity and respect for process into every environment she leads. She remains actively engaged in many artistic pursuits.

Margaret first encountered Montessori and was struck by the serene beauty and intentionality of a prepared environment. She immediately felt called to this work. She completed her Early Childhood Montessori certification in 2001 and has since devoted her career to supporting children, educators and school communities.

She currently serves as Head of School at Spark Montessori School in Chicago and has been a faculty member with the Center for Guided Montessori Studies (CGMS) since 2008. Margaret is deeply committed to adult development and believes that the transformation of education begins with the prepared adult. She is honored to partner with educators as they deepen their understanding of Montessori philosophy and prepare for the profound and life-changing work ahead.
