Cora Heiser Practicum Advisor

I began my Montessori journey 20 years ago when I took over a young adolescent program at an independent school outside of Albany, New York. During my first year, I taught a class of just five students. Over the next two decades, I helped grow that program into a thriving community of more than 45 students supported by four full-time Montessori guides.

As Middle School Director, I wore many hats, teaching Pre-Algebra, Social Studies, Advisory, Micro-Economy, and Service Learning while mentoring faculty and designing meaningful, experiential learning opportunities. One of the greatest joys of my career has been leading Montessori intersessions and educational journeys throughout the Netherlands, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Guatemala, Tanzania, Boston/Cape Cod, New York City, the United Nations, and Civil Rights sites across the American South. These experiences challenged students to become independent thinkers, compassionate leaders, and engaged global citizens.

I am a New York State certified Social Studies teacher (Grades 7–12), hold a Master of Education from the University at Albany, and earned my Montessori Secondary I & II certification through the Cincinnati Montessori Secondary Teacher Education Program. Since 2017, I have served CGMS in a variety of roles, including Field Consultant, Instructional Guide, and Practicum Advisor, and I am excited to return after a few years away.

I am also a Montessori parent. My children, now 13 and 11, began their Montessori journey as infants, transitioned to the Toddler program at 18 months, and have continued their Montessori education into the elementary years. Experiencing Montessori as both an educator and a parent has deepened my appreciation for the philosophy and the lasting impact it has on children and families.

Today, I serve as an Academic Advisor at a community college, where I guide adult learners as they navigate academic planning, educational transitions, and long-term goals. This work complements my role as a CGMS Practicum Advisor, as both focus on supporting adult learners through reflection, individualized guidance, and professional growth while also keeping me connected to the Montessori community.

I am excited to be part of your Montessori journey. I look forward to getting to know you, supporting your growth as a Montessori educator, and learning alongside you throughout the practicum experience. Together, we will continue expanding access to Montessori adolescent education and positively impact the lives of the students, families, and communities that we serve
