Webinar Description:
Montessori education is rich with tradition—but how many of our daily practices are grounded in Maria Montessori’s own words, and how many have evolved into “rules” we follow without question?
In this insightful and empowering session, Jana Morgan Herman invites educators to take a fresh look at some of the most common assumptions in Montessori environments—from the idea of top-to-bottom, left-to-right shelf arrangement, to the expectation of an afternoon work cycle, to what the research really says (and doesn’t say) about uninterrupted work time.
Drawing from Montessori’s original writings, developmental theory, and current research, we’ll explore where certain practices come from and how to discern whether they serve the children in front of us today. This isn’t a call to change what’s working—it’s an invitation to reflect, reconnect with core principles, and feel confident adapting practices when children’s needs call for it.
If you’ve ever wondered, “Is this a Montessori mandate—or just a myth we’ve come to believe?”—this session is for you.
