Asia Summer Residency
Register for the Asia Summer Residency, where Montessori philosophy comes to life through hands-on learning, collaboration, and real classroom application.
About Residency
Experience Montessori in action at our Asia Residency, a multi-day immersive experience designed to bring your learning to life.
Each day takes place in a fully prepared Montessori environment, where you’ll engage in presentations, lectures, work cycles, and collaborative discussions that mirror the real classroom. Interns have the opportunity to practice lessons, refine their approach alongside peers, and receive guidance from experienced instructors.
Over the course of the residency, you’ll also explore practical classroom systems and build meaningful connections with a supportive Montessori community, leaving with the confidence and experience to apply what you’ve learned in your own environment.
What does a typical day at residency look like?
Lectures and lesson presentations occur in a fully equipped Montessori Prepared Environment. This allows interns to focus on the
scope and sequence of all the Montessori Curriculum Areas. There are lots of opportunities for the Interns to practice lessons within the
prepared environment.
This time is structured to mimic the Montessori Classroom Experience. Interns are encouraged to select work while instructional guides wander the classroom, offering the chance to stretch your knowledge and provide assistance when necessary. Interns practice with one another to help refine their Montessori presentations.
At residency we discuss practical applications and systems to help your classroom run smoothly. Community building is central to the CGMS mission and we embed lots of opportunities to build this and demonstrate how to grow community in your own prepared environment.
A Typical Day Includes:
- Snack – community organized
- Work Time
- Circle Time
- Presentations
- Reflections
- Lectures with PowerPoints
- Group Discussion/Partner Discussion
- Community Building Activities
- Lunch – self-procured
What should I bring?
A supply list will be sent to all attendees before the session. You will want to have some basic material-making supplies such as scissors,
good-quality color pencils and markers.
You will want to have a means for taking notes (paper or digital) and a notebook or folder to keep handouts organized. A laptop or tablet is recommended, as you will need to be able to access the CGMS albums for the various lessons presented and to add additional lessons that are presented.
While we will be active as much as possible, there will also be a lot of sitting. If you are driving to the residential session, you may want to
bring a folding canvas chair for more comfort, and if you have an extra one or two, bring it for a friend. A small cushion may also be helpful. We will be holding sessions in EC classrooms, so adult chairs cannot be guaranteed at the host school.
What should I wear?
Casual attire is appropriate. We will be up and down on the floor practicing with lessons, so plan your clothing accordingly. Keep in mind that most locations will be hot outside and cool inside due to air conditioning, so one may want a sweater, or to dress in layers
What if I have trouble finding the site, or last-minute questions once I arrive in Yogyakarta ?
An email will be sent the week before the session begins with last-minute details, parking information, and contact information for the CGMS instructors and directors that will be onsite. Please email summer2026@cgms.edu if you do not receive this email by the week before your session.
How can I connect with others who will be traveling to and/or attending the session?
Please complete the information on your registration stating that you would like to connect with others about sharing lodging and/or
transportation. If you decide you would like contact information for others after you have submitted your registration, please email
summer2026@cgms.edu.
